Calm
I step into the mountains and almost immediately, the turbulence in my mind begins to quiet. My attention shifts to the snowflakes gently falling, abstract reflections moving across the surface of a lake, the power of water cascading down a mountainside, or raindrops breaking the stillness of the water. I become absorbed in these fleeting moments that I forget I am cold or wet. It is in these moments of deep attention that I find a sense of calm and freedom. Nature gives me space to step away from the noise of everyday life, what is troubling me and simply be present with what is unfolding around me. The mountains have become a place where I can breathe, observe, and reconnect with myself—helping me navigate periods of depression and anxiety. Perhaps this is what I cherish most about being in the mountains. They ask nothing of me. They simply invite me to slow down, look closer, and be present. And in those moments, I feel truly free. I hope my photos will give you a small sense of calm which we I believe we all need in the very challenging world of today.
